What We Do

Friends in Retirement/Recreation is a uniquely Solihull organisation, providing educational and recreational activities for the over 50’s of the borough who are/not in full time employment. It has been running for over 35 years, has 5 branches, and over 1450 members. FIRS is entirely self supporting, and provides 57 daytime activity sessions each week in 19 venues.

We are sometimes called the “Solihull Anarchists” as our intention is to keep members not only alive- but actively enjoying living. Each group runs almost autonomously under its leader, with support from a Branch committee. We are all volunteers, and being frugal, keep annual membership to just £2, with session fees usually £1.20 (to pay hall hires). We are a non-profit charity and exist solely to benefit you. We are apolitical, non racial, and primarily intent in enjoying each other’s company. We are truly “FRIENDS IN RETIREMENT” and”FRIENDS IN RECREATION”- the best kept secret in town.
